Thorsten Kaye Jokes About All My Children Story, Cast Change

Earlier today, on All My Children, Zach's ex-wife Hannah died.

Thorsten Kaye, the longtime All My Children star that portrays Zach talks all about it in the January 22 issue of Soap Opera Weekly, as he gets into the details of Stacy Haiduk's (Hannah) departure and other happenings in Pine Valley.

"The weirdest part about that is I was holding on to Hannah, she let go, and I looked up and Greenlee looked completely different. Obviously, Hannah's death took a bigger toll on her than it did on me," joked Kaye, alluding to the return of Rebecca Budig as Greenlee.

Colin Egglesfield: Thorsten Kaye is My Inspiration

Don't show this to Thorsten Kaye.

But the beloved All My Children star appears to be a source of motivation and a wealth of knowledge for co-star, Colin Egglesfield.

Egglesfield (pictured below... shirtless!) recently told Soap Opera Digest that Kaye is his go-to guy for acting advice and inspiration. Of course, if Thorsten learned this information, he’d be unbearable to be around, Colin joked:

"It [would] just make his head bigger than it already is.”

In the Soap Opera Spotlight: Thorsten Kaye

Kaye, ThorstenEveryone loves Thorsten Kaye.

He seems like one funny guy, whether he's giving advice to Cameron Mathison about dancing or just goofing around in general.

But does that mean fans know every little fact about the All My Children star? Look below and see:

  • Moved to the United States in 1985 on a track scholarship.
  • A serious motorcycle accident forced him to change his college major from physical education to fine arts.
  • His real full name is Thorsten Ernst Kieselbach.

Thorsten Kaye Displeased with Dancing with the Stars Results

Now that Cameron Mathison has officially been voted off Dancing with the Stars, co-star Thorsten Kaye can only answer one more round of questions about the competition with Soap Opera Digest.

Here's the final Q&A on the topic...

Thorsten Kaye Picture How do you feel about Cameron getting the boot?
To be honest, I'm a little pissed off. The worst dancer didn't leave. Actors tell stories for other people that are alive, and Cameron did that. I think you have figured out by now that I am not really a dancer. But I do enjoy a great performance. Cameron went out there with courage and integrity and a tremendous amount of class, and he was not given the same respect.

The judges kept talking about his outfits. He didn't pick his outfits. The show picked his outfits. It's not like he had a suede vest in his suitcase and he just pulled it out to dance in. They can't judge a person for that, but they did. For my 35 cents, Cameron was the most entertaining.

How about the four people who are left?

I don't want to name any names, but one of those semi-finalists is entertaining like a car wreck. I don't see what art she is creating. The story she is creating is for herself, not the audience. But Cameron is okay with it, so I am too. I just don't think the worst dancer left, that's all.

The worst dancer certainly didn't leave when that Cheetah girl got voted off, either.
I was surprised by that, too. I think the person who left this week was the hardest worker. Hard work should be rewarded.

By that argument, Mark Cuban should still be in then.
He had hip replacement in July! Cuban was rewarded by not getting voted off FIRST, because he dances like me.

Did you give Cameron any advice about going back to his regular life?
He doesn't have a regular life. The guy still has 40 jobs and there are always at least two camera crews following him. I think he's doing a reality show now: “Behind the Dance, Starring Cameron Mathison.”

Will Cameron miss dancing?
No, because he's not going to put it away. It's in his blood now. If you've been watching All My Children — which we all should — there's a different flow to his character now. He glides across to Annie now with more of a purpose. He's going to have to come out and thank the competition for that. But for now, fans just have to enjoy his movement on All My Children.

Thorsten Kaye Continues to Advise Cameron Mathison

Thorsten Kaye, once again, has talked to Soap Opera Digest about the chances his co-star, Cameron Mathison, has on Dancing with the Stars...

A Dancing Fool What did you think of this week’s competition?
Kaye: This week was hard for me because Cameron didn’t call me for help. He called Susan Lucci (who gave advice to Cameron on air Monday night). I don’t want to make this about myself because, obviously, it’s his moment. But what shouldn’t get lost among all the spandex and sequins is that in the end, what you have is your friendships.

That’s something that’s understood in the dance world and it’s not something that Cameron understands being a non-dancer. I could understand calling Susan from an actor’s point of view. But from a dancer’s point of view... you know who you call. It was a little upsetting to me.

How was Cameron’s dancing this week?
Kaye: Let me tell you something. I watched him and I wanted to skinny dip in his eyes. That’s what one of the girls said in an interview a couple of weeks ago. “I just want to skinny dip in his eyes!” I’d probably wear a bathing suit just for protection.

What advice have you given him for next week?
Kaye: I’m going to be honest with you: I think maybe he should call Lucci. I’m an angry little gnome. If you need to choose the big star from the show to work with, then do it. I’m hurt right now. Maybe I shouldn’t be giving this interview to you in anger, but that’s where I live right now.

What’s your prediction for Cameron in the long run?
Kaye: I think he may win this thing, and that would be awesome. I really think he’s doing a great job. It looks like he’s having fun.

We agree! This All My Children star has a serious chance at victory.

Walt Willey Dishes on His First Encounter Thorsten Kaye

Walt Willey and Thorsten Kaye are good friends now, but the relationship started off a bit icier.

Walt WilleyBefore Kaye took on his All My Children role, Willey was the co-host of SOAPnet's Daytime Emmy Red Carpet coverage – and, at the time, he didn't appreciate Kaye's response when was asked about taking on the new gig.

“He said, ‘[I’m gonna be t]aking all your airtime.’ And we’re live and they’re not my first guests and I’m just … I will never forgive myself for not cutting him off at the knees right there,” Willey recounted. “Of course, it turned out to be true, which is even worse – he did take all my airtime, and a few other people’s.”

Willey can joke about it now, of course, because he has learned Kaye's sense of humor. But it's a funny way to begin what's grown into a tight friendship.

Thorsten Kaye Offers Cameron Mathison Advice

As Cameron Mathison prepares to go Dancing with the Stars again tonight, one of his co-stars talked to Soap Opera Digest about Mathison's opening performance and more.

Here's what All My Children star Thorsten Kaye had to say:

Cameron Mathison DancingWhat did you think of Cameron last night?
Thorsten Kaye: I think the guy was outstanding. With my dance background I look for performance on a much higher level. Cameron and I talked on Sunday night. He asked my opinion and I said, "The best way to start this thing is to lower the bar for yourself where people don't expect a lot from you. When you start this on Monday, your quest for the cup, you should slip down the stairs when you walk in.

Because then people will not think you've got it in you." He said he was not sure he could do that. I said, "You can. Act it and do it." So he did. People think, "Here's a guy who can't even walk down the stairs," and now he has a chance to surprise them. Dance is all about tight pants and strategy. That's how you win this thing.

How about Cameron's taped package?
Kaye: I liked it. It makes you think about how far he's come when you see that picture of him as a kid in leg braces. I wore an ass brace when I was a kid so I can relate to him.

How about the competition?
Kaye: I wasn't too sure about that model guy with the Barbie bathing suit. What was that? I thought it was a little much. This is ballroom dancing — what kind of ballroom can you wear that stuff in?

Did you give Cameron any advice for next week?
Kaye: Yes. I told him to stay with the black on black because it is slimming. He dances like I do: the music will tell him what dance to do. Wait for it to start and just feel it and go.

Thorsten Kaye Talks About Changes on All My Children

Thorsten Kaye Pic Here are a few highlights from a recent interview Soap Opera Digest conducted with All My Children hunk, Thorsten Kaye...

On Soaps' Tendency to Rewrite History: "It's not unavoidable, but I think for an outsider coming in, it's a different way of working. You don't know what's coming and you don't necessarily know what comes before you because that changes. That's something that bothers me. I don't mind the ride, but there has to be a cornerstone, there has to be a history to someone.

If something was a lie for the last three years, that kind of gets me. That's why I left One Life to Live [where he played Patrick Thornhart from 1995-97], because they changed the past. And suddenly, you have no tools left."

On Disciplining Four-Year-Old Daughter McKenna
: "She'll do stuff that I have to tell her not to do, like throwing things in the air. It's terribly hard because our house is filled with cartoon art. I've got a big, eight-foot Chuck Jones bunny and one of the brooms from Fantasia and she doesn't understand why she can't play with them. They're cartoony and she's seen them on TV and so it's a little tough to explain."

On AMC's Transition From Ex-Head Writer Megan McTavish to the Head-Writing Team Of James Harmon Brown And Barbara Esensten: "If somebody else is coming in, it's like you're between coaches or something. You go, 'Let's just try to get through what has already been established by the last one.' We can't just completely stop it and come up with something else because whoever's coming in next will change it again. But I think over the next few weeks, it's all gonna change."
