Melody Thomas Scott is just getting started.
The Young and the Restless star, who has been shining on that series in recent weeks, will see her character - Nikki - hit the bottle down in Mexico when she thinks her ex-husband Victor (Eric Braeden) has died in a boat crash. Seems problematic for recovering alcoholic.
"When Nikki isn't drowning her sorrows in the local cantina and drunk-dialing Katherine, she's staggering along the beach hoping for some sign of Victor," Scott told TV Guide.
"He finally turns up and we have scenes that are very Scarlett and Rhett, and I don't mean that in a romantic way but in the true sickness that was Scarlett and Rhett. It's really good stuff — like classic The Young and the Restless from 20 years ago."
Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, The Young and the Restless) has become involved with Project Cuddle, an organization that saves abandoned babies and reaches out to troubled pregnant women.
Below, she tells Soap Opera Weekly about her involvement with the charity.
Soap Opera Weekly: How did you get involved with Project Cuddle?
Michelle Stafford: I met Debbe at a party. We started talking, and I thought she was so phenomenal. She's really an extraordinary lady. She told this story about a young girl being afraid to tell people she was pregnant. She ended up killing her baby and putting it in a Dumpster. If that's going on in your life, [before you get to that point], you call Debbe, no questions asked. She'll place your child. It's all done aboveboard, and it's legal. She basically saves your baby for you.
Weekly: When is Project Cuddle's next fund-raiser?
Stafford: There's one in November in New York. I'm going to try to make it. I always donate a tour of [the] Y&R [sets]. I'm actually working with Debbe to do an event to mix in soap opera. We don't do a lot of things as a community. Wouldn't it be cool to have a party at my house with all the women of daytime? I could get them up to speed about what Debbe does. Everybody could donate 100 bucks. That would be great!
Here's a look at a couple developments across the daytime dial this week...
On The Young and the Restless, Nikki and Paul are determined to find Victor before he commits murder.
"It would be illegal for Victor to be judge, jury and executioner," said Doug Davidson (Paul), who explained that the desperate search brings the pair to Mexico, where "Victor could be walking into the whole Mexican mafia."
General Hospital, fans of Patrick and Robin are in for a treat this week: he pops the question to the woman carrying his child. But of course, there's a twist. As Jason Thompson told Soap Opera Digest, "Patrick never really does things by the book."
We wonder what that means - and we can't wait to find out!
Let's take a quick look at this week's The Young and the Restless story lines...
These days, on The Young and the Restless, Christian LeBlanc's character of Michael is involved in a key story line: the search for his father.
We already know his dad will be played by former Family Ties star, Michael Gross. It was one of a number of topics LeBlanc touched on during a recent interview with Michael Fairman:
Q: What does Michael hope to achieve when finding his father?
A:I think he wanted to be a whole person and have a point of reference. You have a whole picture, and even if it’s a bad father you get it. It’s thinking this guy will come save us one day. This goes all the way back to when I would write letters to this man thinking Gloria was mailing them, and realizing she never mailed them. She kept them just to keep this fantasy. That’s where the push-pull comes, and as long as you don’t know its fantasy, but it’s very specific things happening.
I find it with adopted people. It’s an interesting dynamic. I need to know, genetically. I am a huge genealogy freak in real life. That’s what I love about Michael. He is so complex, and it isn’t any push over to be him. The easy part is just to be myself, and the writers have stayed true to his character. You want to stay true to his dark side and his humanness, and it’s good and evil. You can reform yourself, but you cannot deny your history.
Christian LeBlanc cradles an Emmy for his work on The Young and the Restless.
Q: Were you in the audition process when they were casting Michael Gross as your on-screen dad, Lowell?
A: No. That poor man just got thrown into the Baldwin’s and this huge cast! We talked a little the first day of taping, but we were thrown into these really intimate scenes, and it kind of worked. He is the consummate professional.
Q: Will there be a big showdown between the two characters once they meet?
A: Not quite a showdown, just a discovery, and going through the myriad of emotions of when the fantasy dies and the truth stands before you.

Jeanne Cooper is still on a high after winning her first Emmy Award earlier this year. How do we know? A reliable source recently went on record with an update.
"I don't think she's going to come down, ever," said her son, actor Corbin Bernsen.
After 35 years on The Young and the Restless and nine daytime Emmy nominations, Cooper is taking it all in stride... while still reacting with shock over the news.
"She's one of these people — it means something, but it doesn't, really," Bernsen said. "She does it all for the thrill, for you guys, for the fans. That's how she is... She was actually truly, truly shocked, and it was a great night."
