Here's exciting news from the soap opera world:

Richie may have been killed off All My Children - but his portrayer will soon be popping up on The Young and the Restless as the new Billy Abbott.

"He's a winner," a The Young and the Restless cast member told Soap Opera Digest about Billy Miller.

No word yet on when Miller premieres on the drama, but we'll be sure to pass along such news when it breaks.

As previously reported, formerly Family Ties patriarch Michael Gross will be appearing on The Young and the Restless. We now have a bit more information on the role Gross will be playing:

The character's name is River Baldwin and he's a former Vietnam-era activist who was connected to a group of student terrorists.

So far, viewers have been led to believe that River — the missing dad of Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) — was a drifter, druggie and draft dodger who abandoned Michael and his mother, Gloria (Judith Chapman), fleeing to Canada.

"But the truth is not so black and white," The Young and the Restless head writer Maria Arena Bell told TV Guide. "In trying to track down his father, Michael fears he's going to find a very amoral guy. What he ends up finding is someone totally unexpected."

Adds the actor himself:

"River is a very different character than you're accustomed to seeing on a soap — it's like he's from another planet. He was part of a political movement that greatly affected his family. Now he'll be forced to examine the choices he made."

The Young and the Restless has tapped a major big screen baddie to join its cast.

The series will welcome Danny Trejo to the air on August 11. Movie fans might recognize him from thrillers such as The Devil's Rejects and From Dusk 'Til Dawn. Look for the actor to play a bartender who lends Victor his ear when the tycoon passes through Mexico.

Veteran actor Michael Gross has been cast on The Young and the Restless.

Gross will portray Lowell Baldwin, an old flame of Gloria (Judith Chapman) and deadbeat dad of defense attorney extraordinaire Michael (Christian LeBlanc).

Fans of the 1980's sitcom Family Ties are familiar with Gross after his long-time stint as that sitcom's patriarch, Steven Keaton. Look for him to debut on the show on August 15.

"If David killed once, he will kill again," Doug Davidson (pictured) said to Soap Opera Weekly.
