Daytime Emmy Awards Move to The CW

90210... Smallville... and soap operas?!?

Despite not exactly playing into its demographic, The CW will air this year's Daytime Emmy Awards.

For awhile, it seemed as though no network would take on the ceremony. But sources confirm that the August 31 event will, indeed, take place on the same channel that brings up Chuck, Blair and Serena.

Vanessa Marcil to Guest Star on Lipstick Jungle

We wish Vanessa Marcil was returning to General Hospital.

But we'll take this talented beauty any way we can get her - and, according to TV Guide, we can get her on Lipstick Jungle on November 11.

Vanessa Marcil

The publication says Marcil is due to appear on the Sex and the City-type show for three episodes beginning on that date. She'll portray a love interest for Paul Blackthorne's character, which won't exactly please the character played by Brooke Shields.

Lipstick Jungle airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on NBC.

Soap Opera Quotes of the Week

Two fun-loving soap stars were quoted making humorous observations this week. To wit;

"I'm finally on a workout kick and now I'm going to pregnant?" - Guiding Light actress Kim Zimmer on the revelation that Reva is pregnant.

"I've gotten used to lip gloss. I kind of like it on me. I find myself sexy with lip gloss on." - As the World Turns actor Mick Hazen, pictured, on kissing scenes with co-star Meredith Hagner.

Days of Our Lives to Be Interrupted by the Olympics

Attention, Days of Our Lives fans:

Beginning on August 11, the series will offer special programming due to NBC's coverage of the Olympics.

Concerned that certain parts of the country might not get to see Days of Our Lives every day during the event, the show will kick off two limited-arc storylines.

"We didn't want to advance our front-burner stories knowing some fans would be missing out," explains Bruce Evans, senior vice president, Daytime and Drama Programming told Soap Opera Digest.

Soap Opera Notes: Corrections to Beth Ehlers, Michelle Ray Smith News

A couple of corrections to recently-posted stories:

  • Beth Ehlers's All My Children alter ego - originally named Taylor McBride - will now be named Taylor Thompson. The actress makes her first Pine Valley appearance on July 24.
  • Contrary to previous reports, Michelle Ray Smith has not been fired from Guiding Light. The actress is on maternity leave, saying that she's "taking time to be a Mama." Don't count out an eventual return for Smith.
