Mary Beth Evans and Stephen Nichols Answer Days of Our Lives Questions

Mary Beth Evans and Stephen Nichols often answer fan questions on the official Days of Our Lives website.

Below, they respond to a couple of inquiries related to the show and their characters:

Q: What are your favorite characteristics of Steve and Kayla?
Mary Beth: I like that Kayla stands up for what she believes in.
Stephen: Patch is an honorable guy. He always does what he says he's going to do. He's compassionate and he loves children...he tries to protect the little ones.

Q: Do you have any say in the direction of the show?
Stephen: In terms of the writing and the storyline, no. We could probably throw ideas out there and tell them what we think, but we don't have much control over that. What we do have control over is what goes on on the set while we're doing the scenes, we can throw those in. There's a real collaboration, especially now that there are new people there. They are smart and listen to the actors.
Mary Beth: It's great now, too, because we actually get notes...GOOD notes...and it's great. We can always use improvement and tips to tweak it and make it better. It's just way more collaborative now and so much more fun!

Mary Beth Evans Dishes on I Wanna Be a Soap Star

With the season finale of I Wanna Be a Soap Star airing tonight, judge Mary Beth Evans couldn't help but be excited over the opportunity the winner will enjoy.

Mary Beth Evans Picture “Yes! The winner is getting thirteen weeks on Days of our Lives. Isn’t that wild?” the actress said. “I think actually that from previous years, there are winners that are still on (the respective shows).”

There sure are, as Soapdom.com reports.

Alec Musser, season 2 winner, who plays Del Henry on All My Children is still on AMC, however skimpy his appearances are of late.

“I know for me, when I started out, when I was auditioning, there were no other avenues,” said Evans. “There were no reality shows. There were no other ways to get in other than to simply audition. So this is really exciting. What’s very cool, too, is that they have this opportunity to show what they can do more and more. It’s not just one audition – it’s ten!

And that’s really great. Plus, they get to take notes from the people making decisions about it, which can only help (their growth as actors.) It’s been an interesting experience.”

Interesting, yes. But at first, Evan’s hesitated. For her, being a judge meant voting people off and she was not fond of that process.
