Kyle Lowder recently spoke to Michael Fairman about the challenge of playing Rick at the character's in his life.

Below, The Bold and the Beautiful star explains the difficulty he faces with each takes:

My challenge every day is to maintain almost a charming likeability in the midst of being so unbelievably self-centered and downright sleazy at times, for people to be like, ‘Oh, he is so deliciously gross.’ That’s been the challenge!

On the January 2 edition of E!'s The Soup, a pair of stars from The Bold and the Beautiful helped host Joel McHale ring in the New Year by poking fun at themselves.

Ronn Moss  and Kyle Lowder stopped by the set, as their clip - in which Ridge constantly utters Rick’s name - came in at number-five on the show’s year-end countdown.

The character of Rick is heavily involved on The Bold and the Beautiful these days.

As such, actor Kyle Lowder recently sat down to discuss life on the drama with Soap Opera Weekly. Here's an excerpt:

Weekly: Rick really thinks he has everyone where he wants them and is sitting pretty.
Kyle Lowder: Oh, yeah, he thinks he is. I know a lot of people are looking at this story and saying, "I can't stand Rick; he's so whiny, he's so bratty." It's too easy for people to see him being whiny and bratty and trying to manipulate to get what he wants. I want people to be reminded that, in Rick's head, this is [from] a lifetime of pain and suffering. I'm not saying it's justified; I'm saying that it goes deeper.

I want people to try and look deeper as to why Rick is doing this. It's not just a little brat trying to get what he wants. This is an adult who is really trying to ostracize Ridge from the family, from the company, from everything. He's not just trying to break up his mommy and a guy he hates. I am not defending him, but everything he is doing right now is to try and get Ridge ostracized.

Later today on The Bold and the Beautiful, Rick wakes up in the hospital... paralyzed!

"He went head over heels off the Sky Lounge balcony during a fight with Ridge and hit the pavement," Kyle Lowder said to The New York Daily News of scenes that aired Wednesday. "He wakes up out of it. He sees his mom, but he's slow to talk. The doctor comes in. He says, 'Let's check you out.'"

Sadly, Rick gives the doctor the go ahead to "start the test," unaware it's already been completed.

"They realize he has no feeling below his waist. Rick says, 'Oh my God. I can't move.'"

Enter Brooke. She comforts her son, as Ridge comes by to apologize.

"Ridge took away Rick's fiancée and his ability to walk," said Lowder. "He blames Ridge for making his mother miserable, for his own tough childhood and now for this paralysis. He has an overwhelming rage towards Ridge."

As previously reported, Kyle Lowder sang the national anthem prior to the September 23 Los Angeles Dodgers game.

The soap star recently spoke to Soap Opera Weekly about the experience. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Soap Opera Weekly: How did the opportunity to sing the National Anthem come about?
Kyle Lowder: I did it two or three months ago — or actually, three or four months ago. It was very flattering. So they just called back and were like, "We want you to do it again." The Dodgers are in first place right now and the stadium is being filled because of that. They only have three home games left this season, so the fact that they asked me back to do it was really great.

Weekly: So it doesn't freak you out to be in front of all those people?
Lowder: It's funny — it's easier to sing in a stadium of 60,000 than in a intimate room, because you're up there; you're far away from everybody. You're on this huge, grand stage; you have a mic. You know it's very grandiose and kind of big. Whereas it's very difficult to sit in a little intimate setting with 10 people and deliver yourself there. This kind of thing does not make me nervous; it's a lot of fun [for me]

On September 23, the actor will perform The National Anthem at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. The performance will mark the third time Lowder has sung prior to a Dodgers' game.

Kyle Lowder turns 28 today.

The adorable Kyle Lowder was recently interviewed by TV Guide Canada. Here are highlights from the interview:

TVGuide.ca: You must be thrilled that your wife, Arianne Zucker [Nicole] is back on Days of Our Lives and kicking some major diva ass!
Kyle Lowder: You know Days was her first job. She was a successful model before, and that’s what the soap was looking for when they hired her. After she left Days, she wanted to go back to school and improve her craft — not that she was bad before, but she wanted to use her free time to hone her craft, instead of wasting it. And now, look at her — I love what she’s doing as Nicole.

TVG: You and Arianne reconciled after a brief separation; congratulations! At last year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, I hung out with both of you and I never suspected you guys were having problems. A few weeks later, you announced your separation. I was a little shocked, to be honest and thought: Wow, they’re better actors than I gave them credit for! [laughs]
KL: [Laughs] I know — the separation was all about me. We were never not in love. We never put on a show unlike some other A-list movie stars who will remain nameless. I was going through some major personal issues that disconnected me from reality.

Our time apart was about me finding myself. And yes, it takes two to tango, but in this case, I was the one with the issues to resolve, and luckily, she wanted to put the pieces of our relationship back together. She was there for me — and that needs to be said.

This week on The Bold and the Beautiful, Rick joins forces with Taylor.

The goal? To help his new love regain custody of her baby son, Jack.

"He meets with some Forrester attorneys and draws up paperwork that he can hopefully get Nick to sign, saying she could basically have her child back," says Kyle Lowder (pictured, Rick).

Kyle Lowder (The Bold and the Beautiful) will sing the National Anthem before the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks game on Thursday, April 2. The game begins at 7:00 p.m. at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA.
