Guiding Light rings in February with the following developments...

On February 9, Grant Aleksander returns to Guiding Light in the role of Phillip Spaulding.

As he told TV Guide, co-star Ron Raines - who plays Phillip's father - is excited to have his character's son (who supposedly died in November 2004) back.

"I am absolutely thrilled to have my friend Grant Aleksander back in Springfield," Raines said. "I think the story is going to be terrific and very exciting for the fans. There are a lot of surprises — even some that I don't know!"

But will Alan share the actor's enthusiasm? That's another story.

"He doesn't know if his son is going to be an ally... or an obstacle," Raines said, teasing what lies ahead on the show.

David Andrew Macdonald will return to Springfield - in the role of Edmund Winslow - beginning on January 22.

This time around, Soap Opera Weekly, reports Edmund has a shocking secret that will shake up everyone in town.

The character was last seen on screen back in December 2007.

According to the January 6 issue of Soap Opera Digest, John Driscoll is leaving Guiding Light.

The exit of the actor, who portrays Coop Bradshaw, is rumored to be story line related. Coop is currently having an affair with Beth Raines.

Look for Driscoll's exit from Guiding Light to tie in with the return of Grant Aleksander's Phillip Spaulding on February 9.
