This week's issue of Soap Opera Digest reports that Michelle Ray Smith -who has played Ava Peralta Lewis on Guiding Light since 2005 - has been let go from the series.

There have been rumors circulating around the Internet for months of Smith's departure; her character will not be recast

We'll have more information on this story as it breaks, but the actress' final schedule air date on Guiding Light is July 28.

• Ashlee befriends a mysterious stranger.

• Dinah (Gina Tognoni, pictured) confesses to Frank.

• Remy brightens up Ava's day.

• Mallet (Robert Bogue) wants to start over.

On Guiding Light next week, the show's most married couple Josh and Reva lock lips, for the 4,678th time.

"He's very confused by his own actions and trying to work out where he is in his marriage and in his ministry," Robert Newman (Josh) said to Soap Opera Weekly.

Of course, the real shocker is what Robert says to Cassie when he comes home. Guess we'll have to tune in and find out!

Guiding Light fans haven't seen too much of Robert Newman's Josh for a few weeks. The actor simply says it's a reflection of how the series is shooting current stories.

Robert Newman: It's the same thing we've done many times before, where something continues to bond Josh and Reva, whether they are interested in being bonded or not.

Soap Opera Weekly: Speaking of bonding, are Josh and Cassie connecting and getting over Cassie's affair?
Robert Newman: That issue is one of those funny soap opera things that start, get dropped for a while and then get picked up again. Now, Josh and Cassie are trying to find some middle ground and start rebuilding their relationship.

Soap Opera Weekly: Will the marriage last?
Robert Newman: Josh loves Cassie. Everybody wants their marriage to work. Even when the marriage is at its worst, there's still hope. Because Josh is a minister, he really wants to salvage the marriage.

Singer and actress Naelee Rae will join the cast of Guiding Light on June 25. She'll play the character of Clarissa Marler.

Rae has had enjoyed guest roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and The Practice, while also having appeared on daytime TV during a recurring role as Gabrielle on One Life To Live.
