Belle Black Kiriakis: Why would you say that?
Shawn-Douglas Brady: Because, otherwise, we would be related. Your grandmother is a Brady, remember?
Belle Black Kiriakis: Oh, my god. I never even thought about that. Actually, that makes me more of a Brady than you.

Lucas: If I live to be one hundred, I will never understand women.

Sami Brady: [to Kate] I have a friend who is keeping an eye on Victor and Nicole for me.
Kate Roberts: You have a friend?

James Reynolds Speaks on Days of Our Lives Racism

James Reynolds recently spoke to TV Guide Canada about a number of topics. Among them? Racism on soap operas.

TVGuide.ca: It’s been quite the roller-coaster ride behind the scenes in Salem! Are you nervous regarding the upcoming decision by NBC to either renew or cancel Days of Our Lives?
James Reynolds: No. We’ve all been through this before. The cast trusts all the parties involved — Sony, NBC, and Corday Productions — to make the right decision during the negotiations. Everyone wants to see the show continue — and on NBC. And, across the world. However, there are strategies in place if NBC doesn’t renew it, I believe. SOAPnet and ABC are possibilities.

TVG: The cast must be happy Drake Hogestyn [John] returned to the show; were you aware this was yet another publicity ruse spearheaded by executive producer Ken Corday?
JR: No — we thought John Black was dead. We’re so happy he’s back, and I personally think that John is a very interesting character now. I think Drake’s performance has been very entertaining.

TVG: I’d say. Last year, Victoria Rowell [ex-Dru, The Young and the Restless] labelled daytime "racist." The U.S. has a woman and a black man running for president, yet daytime appears to be moving backwards instead of forward with the world. Since you’re a black soap vet, I’m eager to hear your thoughts.
JR: Yes, I would have to agree with that assertion. It’s odd since daytime used to be groundbreaking in that respect. There is tremendous storyline potential for black characters on soaps, but it’s hard to convince the powers-that-be to acknowledge that the world is changing.

You know, I’ve been tremendously disappointed for people of colour on soaps. Other than Victoria’s former show, The Young and the Restless, and our show, Days, no one has had that kind of racial presence throughout the years. I have to say, though, that I’m very proud that Days has allowed me to grow older as a black man on TV — which rarely happens in any genre. I think often times, daytime TV operates from a cocoon.

They’re not looking around themselves. I can’t solely lay the blame on daytime TV, but it’s suspect when you consider the largest demographic watching daytime is blacks. They deserve to see their own stories reflected on their favourite shows.

mikeohearn_jpg.jpg We can't say we saw this guest starring appearance coming.

Mike O'Hearn (Titan from the new version of American Gladiators) will guest star on Days of Our Lives Friday March 14.

Warning: the following are Days of Our Lives spoilers that reveal the premise behind O'Hearn's appearance on the show.

Kate (Lauren Koslow) finds Chelsea (Rachel Melvin) drowning her sorrows over recent tragedies. The former tries to stop her granddaughter from drinking, but Chelsea thinks she's to blame for of the recent Brady deaths.

Enter O'Hearn!

He offers Chelsea coffee in order to try to sober her up, but she refuses and storms off. Later, Shawn (Brandon Beemer) and Belle (Martha Madison) show up at the bar searching for Chelsea and O'Hearn tells them to get in touch with Kate.

What a guy! Strong and classy!

Brandon Beemer Speaks on Days of Our Lives Firing

Brandon Beemer Brandon Beemer is finally speaking out on his recent, surprising firing from Days of Our Lives.

The handsome actor told Soap Opera Weekly:

“Somebody came in and had another vision. That's what happened. I understand it. It's the change that really hurts. [But] it's not that big a deal. What put it into perspective was when Heath Ledger was found dead in his bed. I was sitting at work and somebody was talking about our situation, I said, 'You know what? Things could be worse.'

I'm not going to sit here and complain about [being let go], because there are so many bigger things going on. Besides one door closes, and another opens."

Which door do you hope will open for Beemer? One on another soap opera?

Sneak Peak at Next Week's Days of Our Lives: Bo is Free!

Bo BradyAccording to The New York Dailly News, Bo Brady is released from the hospital next week on Days of Our Lives. He attends his father's funeral.

"The nice part about the scenes is that all of Shawn's children give the eulogy," Peter Reckell, who plays Bo, told the newspaper. "Roman and Kayla are there, and Kimberly comes home for the funeral."

Yes, actress Patsy Pease is returning for a few episodes, which will give Days of Our Lives the opportunity to use flashbacks of the whole Brady family.

"You'll see flashbacks of who Pop was over the last 28 years," said Reckell. "Kimberly talks about how he didn't approve of her relationship with Shane and they have a flashback of that, which must have been in the '80s. Kayla talks about Patch, so we see that. I talk about how Pop liked any excuse to party, and then we see that. We're doing show 10,771 and my flashback was from 5,000- something, so it's pretty old."

Reckell added that the show will devote "one episode for the funeral and then another episode for the wake. The church is standing-room-only, and it's the same with the pub, where the wake takes place."

Jay Kenneth Johnson Blogs About Direction of Days of Our Lives Character

Days of Our Lives star Jay Kenneth Johnson hasposted a message on his website to fans. In it, he talks about the direction of his character, among other topics:

I do like the fact that 'Philip' is getting the opportunity to interact with many other characters. The crash was an unfortunate situation, but 'assuming' we make it back to Salem, I think that interaction will continue.

A Jay Kenneth Johnson Photo

The Ireland storyline and aftermath was a long couple of weeks. Hopefully you got a chance to check out the "behind the scenes" clips I put together. I wanted you to get a feel for how big of a production the crash was. The actual crash set took up half the stage, with the crew on the other half. As big as it was, I think we pulled it off.

That said, it was sad to see Frank Parker's "Grandpa Shawn" go. He is one of a kind, and will be missed. If you get a minute, try and write him to say "thanks" for all the memories.
