In a fun interview with Soap Opera Digest, Martha Madison recently recounted her five favorite episodes/scenes/moments during her tenure on Days of Our Lives...

2005: HELLO, MOTHER
"I didn't work with Deidre Hall for about a year when I first joined the show, because Marlena was presumed dead. When it came time to do my first scenes with her, not only did I have to play the shock of 'Oh, my God! My mom is alive,' but I also had to do an entire show with Deidre Hall. It was a lot [to deal with]. I was scared to death. Deidre was like, 'Oh, my gosh. You're ridiculous for being so scared. We'll get through this together.' And we did. I connected with Deidre right away, and it was just awesome."

2004: SAY CHEESE!
"When Eric Winter (ex-Rex), Farah Fath (ex-Mimi), Jason Cook (ex-Shawn), Kyle Brandt (ex-Philip) and Heather Lindell (ex-Jan) were on the show, the six of us got to do this really fun photo shoot at Universal Studios Hollywood. It was on the New York City lot. They were trying to create that Friends shoot, and it was a blast. So much fun. I mean, there we were, working on a different lot, outside. We were all in trailers, and there were tour buses going by. You felt like such a star."

2005: BABY BLUES
"Playing Belle's postpartum depression after Claire was born was fun for me, because it was different. Doing that story brought my acting to a new level, too. It was really challenging. It was the first time we had done a postpartum story [on Days of Our Lives]. That, in and of itself, was a fun challenge for me. As an actor, I learned a lot, having to play something I had absolutely no idea about or how to play. It's the only time I ever really researched a lot of stuff. I had a lot of homework."

Here's what fans can look forward to on Days of Our Lives...

• Bo (Peter Reckell) begins to investigate "the woman in black" who was at the church.

• Marlena learns that Belle slept with Phillip (Jay Kenneth Johnson, pictured).

• Chloe Lane Black returns this week; she sees Belle and asks her about Phillip.

• Roman arrests Kate after her gun is found.

It seems as though Alison Sweeney has been on Days of Our Lives forever. The actress recently talked about the show - along with her gig as host of The Biggest Loser - with BuddyTV:

You've been on Days of our Lives for so long. What is it about the show that keeps you on it for so many years, since you were a teenager?
You know what? It's just a fun show, and I love the character, I love the people I work with. I love everything about it. So it's been tremendously rewarding for me for so many years. They're my family.

And did you ever have a desire to do something like host a reality show? Or is this something that came up out of the blue?
You know, I am a fan of reality shows. I love The Biggest Loser. You know, I was watching it before I joined it. And when they approached me and asked me if I wanted to be a part of it, I leapt at the chance. I was thrilled. It wasn't something that occurred to me, but I really was excited to do it.

Did you feel any pressure, coming onto the show, since it had already been on for three seasons and had a previous host?
Yeah, definitely. It's sort of scary to take over for someone and tough to fill in on the show that's already had its start and already has a great fanbase, and I was certainly one of those fans. But I was excited at the opportunity and thrilled at the chance to be part of a show that I think really does help people and really does make a difference, not just any old show. It's very inspiring, and so I accepted without question.

Less than a year after joining Days of our Lives, Marcus Patrick has been let go by the NBC soap opera. The timing of the move has many fans scratching their heads.

After all, Patrick posed for Playgirl just a few months ago. Could this decision have led to his dismissal?

Rumors of Patrick's firsting first started circulating in August, when the actor posed naked for Playgirl. We might never know if this led to his ousting, but tabloid The Globe printed an article saying NBC brass was unhappy with Patrick's appearance in the magazine.

This marks the second time that Patrick has been axed by a soap. He joined All My Children as Jamal Cudahy in June 2006, but asked to be released just three months later.

Today is Patrick's final appearance on the show. We'll keep you updated as this story progresses, but let us know what you think about it now at our Days of Our Lives forum.

Deidre Hall recently spoke with TV Guide about current and future Days of Our Lives story lines. Here is the interview:

TV Guide: I know you were disappointed that your longtime co-star Drake Hogestyn [John] was fired, but you must be digging the great material John’s shocking death has provided you as an actor.
Deidre Hall: I love that we got to play something with substance, and most importantly, that John’s death was given the weight and respect it deserved.

TV Guide: Can you talk about Marlena’s big upcoming storyline?
DH: I’m not terribly clear myself, but I believe I’m playing Jodie Foster, à la The Brave One: I’m out for the man who killed my man. And, of course, any kind of revenge story is great to play as an actor. Marlena’s quietly and fiercely empowered — and since she has nothing to lose, she has enormous strength.

TV Guide: Days of Our Lives feels very different these days — is it because of new co-executive producer Ed Scott’s influence?
DH: I don’t know who exactly is responsible, but my suspicion is it’s all Ed Scott, who has come in with great ideas and enormous energy. His first great idea was to change the lighting on the show. While it may seem superficial — and maybe it is — when you know you look good, you have the courage to do more and try more and [concentrate on the acting instead of hitting all these marks so you are lit properly and don’t block someone else’s lighting].

Also, when you make a change in the look of the show, it gets the audience’s attention. In regards to storyline, the audience then can focus on what’s happening instead of how bad things look, [which distracts fans, in my opinion].

TV Guide: After years of not submitting yourself for Emmy consideration, will you this year — especially now that you have the material to win? Fans and critics are dying to know.
DH: You know I haven’t for years, and it’s not that I haven’t been nominated, I’ve kept myself out of the race for years. I’m completely flattered regarding the Emmy buzz, but it’s such an energy black hole. I’m happy and peaceful knowing that Days of Our Lives is the best show on daytime, and has the most beautiful and talented people on TV.

Unfortunately, it’s always tragically overlooked on Emmy nomination day because it’s a numbers game. And I want the audience to know that we’re slighted on Emmy day because the Academy is compromised of actors on each show, and actors on each soap vote for their network — and now NBC only has one soap opera, Days of Our Lives, so we don’t have a chance.
