Cady McClain Comments on All My Children Return

Warning: All My Children spoilers ahead!

Starting next week - and continuing sporadically for the next two months - Cady McClain reprises the role of Dixie. The actress says this story line should give Tad and Dixie fans the closure they’ve been looking for.

“I can’t undo the past, but I can participate in the creation of a better present,” she told the New York Daily News. “This is a good show with a lot of good people working on it. I am pleased to have been asked to return, and to have the public recognition that a mistake was made. How many times in life does that happen? I wasn’t asking or expecting that, mind you, but it’s really nice.”

Of course, fans can’t rule out a permanent return someday if ratings for All My Children rise with Dixie’s return. After all, Jesse Hubbard just made a triumphant return 20 years after being killed.

“Even if they cut your head off on camera, you can come back,” McClain said with a laugh. “Seriously, I think the fact that they just brought back Jesse makes things trickier, so I understand why this might not happen now. But it doesn’t mean it will never happen. Even if doesn’t, I’m at peace. It’s so very nice to have this moment. I’m grateful for it.”

Cady McClain to Return to All My Children

800014994_220_cache.png Attention, All My Children fans: This just in, from ABC.com:

“You wanted it, you got it! Cady McClain returns to All My Children as Dixie Cooney Martin on Friday, May 2.”

The network added:

“Dixie is back in Pine Valley with a mission: She’s reuniting Tad with their long-missing daughter, Kate! As the audience knows, Kate was stolen at birth, put up for adoption and now lives with Nurse Julia under the name of Kathy. Only Adam — Dixie’s evil ex-husband and Tad’s lifelong enemy — knows the truth that Kathy is Tad and Dixie’s child.

“When last seen in January 2007, Dixie fell victim to a serial killer…. ”

But that’s just a silly detail All My Children can easily overcome, right?

“Her ghost watched as Tad received a comforting hug from Kathy. It was then that Dixie realized Kathy was really her daughter. Now, with her angelic hand, Dixie will guide Tad into the loving embrace of their little girl. This is drama you can’t miss!”

Cady McClain Diagnosed with Tumor

Former All My Children and As the World Turns star Cady McClain has revealed in her official blog that she’s been diagnosed with a fibroid tumor:

“Like my previous consumptive character, Rosanna, I seem to have manifested myself a nice fibroid tumor on my uterus. Why am I sharing this with you? Because it scared the shit out of me, and now it turns out it’s not so bad. LOTS of women have these things.

They are not cancerous, and you can leave them or have them out depending on the size and the symptoms they may be causing you. I’m gonna have mine out.

The good news is, I have a good doctor who can get it out without cutting me open like a watermelon. It’s called laproscopic (sp?) surgery. They go in with a tube through your belly and break it up and suck it out.

Gross, I know, but this is how it is. The bad news is you can’t get pregnant for 6 months after, but that’s okay. Perhaps there is a bit of God in all this.”

Cady McClain: On As the World Turns Departure, All My Children Rumors

McClain, CadyHere are excerpts from a recent interview Cady McClain gave to Soap Opera Weekly:

Q: How was Rosanna’s exit?
Cady: Let’s put it this way: As the person who plays this character, it was an emotional hysterectomy. Rosanna’s womb, adopted child, and business exited stage left. Apparently, there was nothing left to take but her dignity.

Q: Why would they do that to this once powerful businesswoman?
Cady: I don’t know. I cannot understand why in a medium that caters to women, intelligent female characters have to be set up to be stupid and emotionally impulsive… “punished” for actions they would never have taken without a gun to their head… and left begging and pathetic.

As an actress, it was not romantic. It was embarrassing. Almost as bad as the pancakes, and that’s saying something. I have to wonder what the hell is going on these days. Are strong, smart women so threatening that they have to be vilified? I think they should be celebrated, but what do I know? Maybe I need a boob job.

Q: Have you been watching As the World Turns? Practically every storyline is fixated on trying to have a baby, I don’t get it.
Cady: I watch sometimes. Look, it’s easy to criticize. All the shows are doing a great job keeping these well-loved institutions on the air despite enormous changes in our industry, and whoever is responsible for that ought to be applauded. I do think, however, that actors are often thought of as egocentric, over-emotional puppets without a brain by the powers that be, and that is too bad, because actors who have lived these roles for 10-plus years can often five insight that could be incredibly useful.

They lived the glory days and often have an instinctual “feel” for what works. They are a resource that is undervalued. Then again, there are some out there who have earned that lousy rep!

Q: What do you want to say to all the Dixie fans clamoring for you to return to All My Children?
Cady: Always and forever, that you. I’m so sorry it didn’t go well last time. I’m sure I am partly to blame. I wish I had been able to better fullfill your expectations. I wish there could be some lovely, loving resolve around the Kate situation, some happy ending, or a chance for things to not seem so bitter, simply for the viewers that invested so much time and energy in that long-running story.

Tad and Dixie were always about stealing happiness, despite everything. Perhaps TPTB are planning that, and if it included me, great., It is doesn’t, I truly hope it is as wonderful as it holds the potential to be. I mean that.

Cady McClain Opens Up About As the World Turns Departure, All My Children Rumors

Cady McClain Picture Her final air date may be a mystery, but it’s a known fact by now that Cady McClain is not coming back to As the World Turns.

She recently confirmed as much on her personal blog.

“I have sad news. [The Powers That Be] are wrapping up the Rosanna storyline early,” McClain wrote. “I was slated to work through February, but the story took a dramatic turn that will alter that plan. I have always been open to all possibilities, even this one, but I will be sad to have to say goodbye so soon.”

Fans were elated over the summer when McClain came on the show… but excitement soon died down as they grew dismayed by her actual story line. The actress talked about this, as well.

“I’m sorry the story on As the World Turns isn’t grabbing you guys. I know a lot of thought goes into it, but I can’t tell you more than that,” McClain said. “I am just a gun for hire, and I don’t have any say in the story.”

With one departure set, however, rumors have been swirling that a return may now be in order. Might we see McClain back on All My Children? (Her character had been killed off by poisoned pancakes, always a tough way to go).

“I really am only the actor. I don’t think [ABC] will ever bring me back, especially if they have removed the Dixie CHARACTER bio from the [official All My Children] website,” McClain said. “It’s over. It’s all done. AMC is going to become something totally different than it once was. It will be all new, all different. Why? I can only conjecture.”

Already, though, the publication is wondering is this signals a return to All My Children. We’ll let you know as soon as we learn more.

Cady McClain: Back on As the World Turns

Cady McClain After a year and a half on All My Children Cady McClain - or Dixie Martin, to be specific - was abruptly killed off due to a poisoned pancake.

From there, McClain was the first to admit that the turn of events was disappointing, but you know what they say: as one door closes, another opens.

The actress took several months off to put the finishing touches on her debut CD, “Blue Glitter Fish,” and perform her music at various venues on the east coast. As Soapdom reports, before long, she was called in by As the World Turns to reprise her Daytime Emmy-winning role of Rosanna Cabot.

Of course, when we last saw Rosanna, she was in a coma. But it does appear as though this status could be changing soon.

In a recent interview, McClain said that everyone at As the World Turns was happy to see her return.  She also shared some insight into working on the showm which actually equates to the differences of working for ABC and PGP.

“There is a certain ease there (at ATWT). It’s really just about the show and the actors and what we’re doing there.  The larger world doesn’t make its presence known over there. You can just focus on the work you’re doing and the people you’re doing it with, as opposed to worrying so much about who’s seeing it and what they’re thinking.”
