Soap Opera Weekly: Parker and Liberty's storyline has freaked a lot of people out, since they had sex at so young an age.
Austin Peck: But the good thing is that Brad's perspective [on giving out birth control] is bringing up a lot of conflict. You have a lot of parents, a lot of people, with opinions about it. There's popular media opinion, you have conservative old-school opinion, etc.

So there's a lot of debating going on — and I don't get a sense that the show has chosen to take a point of view. Hats off to Chris (Goutman, As the World Turns executive producer) and the writers, because they're presenting the points of view.

Weekly: Is it weird that Brad has transitioned into such a hardcore family man and such a stickler?
Peck: Right now Brad has a tremendous amount of angst, so his sense of humor is kind of lacking. It's okay for me, because he's human and everybody goes through periods like that. But also, what makes Brad who he is is his sense of irony and his sense of humor. The character has to grow, but there always will be elements of him being a big puppy dog, with that goofiness.

It totally coincides with my subtext, as far as why Brad came back to Oakdale in the first place. If he doesn't grow and change, it's a short-lived character.

In a recent interview, Austin Peck had nothing but great things to say about the writers on As the World Turns.

"I have to take off my hat to the writers, because everything I have been able to do as an actor started with what they have given me," the actor said. "They've allowed me to be goofy, to be silly, to be arrogant and obnoxious - childlike, actually, like a big puppy dog. They see that's a big part of my personality, so they write toward that."

Peck added that he had tried to bring that same off-kilter comic edge to his earlier daytime role as nice guy Austin Reed on Days of our Lives, but it was like acting inside of a box.

"Austin was a very stereotypical soap character in most ways, a very good guy who always does right," Peck said. "I tried to put irony and humor into it, but I had to be incredibly subtle, so a lot of it just went over people's heads."

Austin Peck, who plays Brad Snyder on As the World Turns, is 37 today.

The soap opera star actually shares a birthday with Jenna Jameson and Hugh Hefner, a pair of celebrities who have made a living via adult entertainment. Does this mean Peck will be getting naked any time soon?

We doubt it. But women can always dream, can't they?

Terri Colombino and Austin Peck are the hottest non-couple on daytime TV.

The As the World Turns co-stars recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest about their relationship, characters and other topics:

Digest: Was there chemistry right away?
Peck: I thought so. I tried to give her permission to be the way she needed to be with me as the character and really hit my feet off the table or really come at me. I don't even know if I said anything, but even after we started working, any time it was in the script for her to be physical with me, I said, "Push me! Really go for it! Just do it!" It was giving her permission to be how she needs to be as Katie to Brad and that just gives me what I need.
Colombino: He still does that.

Peck: But as far as the screen test was concerned, I saw the character and I felt like I saw what they wanted and I saw the traps that most actors or that I myself might have made. I knew that I was going to go for the fun. Katie is trying to grow up and take her life seriously. Here comes this guy who doesn't take much of anything serious, but he is inside. And I thought that was the fun thing about him that he was challenging her.

When Brad and Katie got down tot he task of making baby Snyders, they didn't hide their joy for the bedroom romp.

The man who portrays Brad on As the World Turns, meanwhile, recently told Soap Opera Digest how funny they were to tape.

"I really had a good time," said Austin Peck of Brad and Katie's first go-round. "That was a very fun day."

It was also one without a lot of clothing involved.

"I know, I know," Peck said. "I need to get in the gym. I haven't been working out.

Despite Peck's hesitance at getting naked, commented on how confident Brad is in his bare skin.

"I love playing Brad because part of his appeal is that he is so willing to let things hang out," the actor said. "He's very aware of his sexuality, of his looks. He's totally willing to bare it all — and very aware that he is baring it all."

We bet viewers are glad about this fact, as well.

On today's episode of As the World Turns, Brad's life undergoes a significant change.

Kate and Brad hit the sheets, but for very different reasons, of course: she wants a baby; he's in love with her.

"She wants to try it the old fashioned way," says Austin Peck, who plays Brad. "First, she wanted to do it artificially. He had to go to the hospital by himself and go in a room. He couldn't do it. He told them, 'Sorry!' and was disappointed in himself.

Then Katie called. She's changed her mind."
