Alison Sweeney Speaks on The Biggest Loser, Days of Our Lives Changes

Alison Sweeney recently covered both The Biggest Loser and Days of Our Lives with Boston Now.

BN: Do you think if you had had a show the Biggest Loser to watch while you were a teenager it would have helped you deal with your weight issues?
AS: That's a good question. When I was a teenager I didn't really know or talk about what was healthy. We are living in a bubble in California, where there are Whole Foods and Trader Joes and restaurants that serve super healthy meals everywhere, but if you travel the rest of the country, it's the way that it was for me as a teenager...

I used to think that pasta was a super healthy meal. I just didn't know any different. I fell for the whole low fat cookies routine - I'd have a whole box and think, "well, they're low fat."

That's what got me into so much trouble and that's why we are so lucky to have a show like Biggest Loser now, because it gives us not just the heartfelt stories of people who have gotten themselves into situations they don't know how to get out of, it gives us their successes in every show, and also it's giving people the tips they need to do it at home. Obviously not to the scale of the show, and not as quickly we do it on The Biggest Loser, but it's important.

BN: How has it been on Days of Our Lives since (new producer) Ed Scott came in?
AS: Oh my gosh, it's fantastic. We're so lucky. He's such an amazing producer. He has been around the block a time or two with Young and the Restless and he came in here with...I would say "guns blazing" but the truth is he came in with his orange sneakers blazing.

He made such an impression on the set from the moment he got here with his enthusiasm and his work ethic and his strive for perfection, and that's what I admire so much because that's my mentality. I can't give up on anything in my life and if I came to work thinking, "oh fine, it's just another day," I'd rather do something else.

He wants it to be right, he wants it to be good, he wants it to be perfect. He is someone you can look up to and someone you can work hard for.

Alison Sweeney Dishes on Days of Our Lives, The Biggest Loser

An Alison Sweeney PictureIt seems as though Alison Sweeney has been on Days of Our Lives forever. The actress recently talked about the show - along with her gig as host of The Biggest Loser - with BuddyTV:

You've been on Days of our Lives for so long. What is it about the show that keeps you on it for so many years, since you were a teenager?
You know what? It's just a fun show, and I love the character, I love the people I work with. I love everything about it. So it's been tremendously rewarding for me for so many years. They're my family.

And did you ever have a desire to do something like host a reality show? Or is this something that came up out of the blue?

You know, I am a fan of reality shows. I love The Biggest Loser. You know, I was watching it before I joined it. And when they approached me and asked me if I wanted to be a part of it, I leapt at the chance. I was thrilled. It wasn't something that occurred to me, but I really was excited to do it.

Did you feel any pressure, coming onto the show, since it had already been on for three seasons and had a previous host?

Yeah, definitely. It's sort of scary to take over for someone and tough to fill in on the show that's already had its start and already has a great fanbase, and I was certainly one of those fans. But I was excited at the opportunity and thrilled at the chance to be part of a show that I think really does help people and really does make a difference, not just any old show. It's very inspiring, and so I accepted without question.

Alison Sweeney: Psyched to Go Green

Here's the latest blog from Alison Sweeney, courtesy of the official Days of Our Lives website. In it, the actress praises NBC's Green Week:

This was such a great idea. Ever since my character on Days of Our Lives had a “Green Wedding” I have been even more aware of all the little things we can do to help the environment. I now incorporate some of the things I learned during that storyline when I’m throwing parties or just in everyday life. So, I was really excited that Biggest Loser was doing something for the environment too!

And happy to see how everyone embraced the theme this week. A little grumbling from Bill (justifiably afraid of going back into the desert with Jillian) aside, they all were enthusiastic about learning ways they can be more eco-friendly.

Now, at this point in the season, you may be asking me… do I have a favorite? The truth is, yes! I want them all to win! Seriously, they are all fantastic people, and I really admire the effort they are putting into this game/life-change. By nature, I am a root-for-the-under-dog type person. For example, I will root for the LA Clippers vs the LA Lakers every time.

Every sport I watch in fact, I almost always find myself cheering for the losing team. Nothing is more exciting than a come-back! So in each situation here at the Biggest Loser Campus, each challenge, each weigh-in, I am cheering them all on! And nothing is more difficult for me in this job than looking someone in the eye and saying “you are not the Biggest Loser.”

It seriously kills me.

Alison Sweeney Blogs About Candy

Alison Sweeney PhotoAs host of The Biggest Loser - and someone who has struggled with her own weight - Alison Sweeney is careful about feeding her son sweets.

Therefore, the Days of Our Lives actress told a funny story about Halloween on her blog recently:

“I really don't let him eat candy at all, so it was hilarious to see him carefully select a piece of candy from each bowl, because he had no idea what he was choosing. But seeing the big kids get candy gave him a good idea that it was something he wanted!

My one saving grace was one lovely woman who gave him a little packet of mini-graham cracker type cookies, so when we got home, I pulled those out of the bag, and said this is what you got... and then dumped the rest of his loot into our out-going Halloween bowl. Is that mean?

I don't know, I just want to delay his interest in candy like that for as long as possible.”

Alison Sweeney Blogs About The Biggest Loser, Week Five

Here's the latest blog from Alison Sweeney, courtesy of the official Days of Our Lives website:

Jamaica has been such an amazing experience. You really get to know people when you travel together! We stayed at this amazing resort, the Grand Lido, in Negril. It was so cool to go down to breakfast and run into the blue team coming from a work out or watch the black team working out on the beach.

Also, because the Black Team got to enjoy massages thanks to winning the reward, Jillian had time to train me. When Jillian offered, I jumped at the chance. They are such smart trainers, I couldn’t miss my chance. But then, all morning, I was definitely nervous!I mean, come on… I’ve seen how she trains. She’s hard core. And I am definitely not the type to give up easily. And she said right from the beginning that she was going to push me to my limits. And she did.

After all we got all the work (and working out) out of the way, the evenings here are so much fun. Even though it was still super muggy – you just never stop sweating here – we all had fun activities planned. Corina, my Make-up Artist, brought her husband, so Dave and I went out with them to a local fish ‘shack’ and had delicious local cuisine.

Alison Sweeney Blogs About The Biggest Loser

Days of Our Lives star Alison Sweeney is the host of The Biggest Loser.

Here are parts of her blog about it, courtesy of the official NBC website...

Yikes! This was such a busy week!!! First the temptation started the week off with some major drama. After explaining to everyone that they would have to spend time alone in a room with all that food, with one person winning a 3 lb pass at the next weigh-in, they were also told there was no strategizing amongst teammates.

allyblog.jpg

As people came out from the room, there was a lot of trash talk – some people saying they didn’t eat anything and others claiming the crew will have to restock the room before the next person goes.

Meanwhile, the contestants who hadn’t gone yet, weren’t supposed to be strategizing, they were only allowed to talk to me! Ha – so we talked about movies (one of my favorite go-to conversations), we quoted our favorite lines from movies, and Nicole told me that she was a long time Days fan. She asked me about the show, and what was happening right now.

I gave her a brief synopsis and soon everyone was in on it – even Ryan and Neil had questions about the show and how it works etc. It was really my first chance to sit and get to know everyone better.

A Trip Down Memory Lane with Alison Sweeney

Alison Sweeney has been appearing on Days of Our Lives since she was 16.

16!

Those years have formulated countless memories inside the actress. She shared her five favorite days with Soap Opera Digest:

Alison Sweeney Picture1992: VETERAN'S DAY
"My first day on-set! Working with Wayne Northrop (ex-Roman), Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (John) was such an incredible introduction to life in Salem. I was so lucky to have my first storyline be with them, because I got to learn from the best.

I learned so much from the three of them about what we do at Days of Our Lives how to act, hit your marks, say your lines, know your light, and learn all the technical things you need to know to be on a soap opera. I still think back now about all the lessons I learned from them the first months working on the show."

1993, 1994: LOVE THAT LUCAS
"Any scene with Bryan Dattilo (Lucas) over the years. Where do I start? From the photo lab scene to hiding in the cave from a tiger and to our real-life 13-year friendship, bonding as parents and as Clipper fans. We share courtside season tickets."

2005: FRANKIE FOREVER
"Meeting Billy Warlock for the first time and having him come back on the show as Frankie. I always loved Frankie and Jennifer. I wasn't here when Billy was on Days of Our Lives before, but I was always such a fan. It was wonderful to find out he is just as charming in person as he is in character."

2005: WHAT A TRIP!
Going to the Rolling Stones concert with Bryan, Christie (Clark, ex-Carrie) and Austin (Peck, ex-Austin). It was such a fun trip. We all took a bus together, the whole crew, to the Anaheim Angels' stadium. It was so much fun. It felt like a school trip, because we all got in this bus and went together. Then, the concert was so fantastic. I'd never seen the Rolling Stones perform live. They were amazing to see and we had these killer seats. It was a great experience. The music was great and it was a really fun show."

2006: ABS FAB
"Only because it's still fresh in my mind, my first scene with James Scott (EJ). James opened the door in a towel. Then, Austin Peck (Austin) entered into the scene, and he was also shirtless. I looked at both men and realized how incredibly lucky I am to have such a fabulous job."
