Victor: Yeah? You know that every time I drive home, I think of your beautiful face. I think of how lucky I am to have found you, and that you make me feel more alive than I have in a long time.

Summary

Days Of Our Lives first aired in 1965 on NBC. The story focuses on the trials and tribulations of the Horton, Brady, and DiMera families, and other residents of the fictional town of Salem.

Salem is a middle-America town, with usual threads of love, marriage, divorce, and family life, plus medical stories and character studies of individuals with psychological problems.

The writers took pride in the characters' passion, more so than in most daytime dramas, saying that characters should not be shy about sharing what's in their gut.

Critics originally praised the show for its non-reliance on nostalgia and its portrayal of "real American contemporary families." By the 1970s, Days was considered the most daring daytime drama, using themes other shows of the period would not dare touch, such as artificial insemination, bulimia, SIDS and interracial romantic entanglements.

In the 1990s, the show branched out into supernatural storylines, which critics panned, as it was seen as a departure from more realistic storylines for which the show had originally become known.

Despite a devoted fan base, Days of Our Lives ratings have declined since the 1990s, and in January 2007 it was announced that the show "is unlikely to continue past 2009.
