Van Hansis Catches Up with Fans in Latest Blog

Here's the latest blog entry from Van Hansis. It's posted on the official website for As the World Turns - but why waste time tracking that down when you can read it right here and now?

I guess I haven't really written anything lately because my daily life is kind of uneventful right now. "Die Mommie Die!" is going really well, it has been the longest run of any show I have done. "Die Mommie Die!" has been a great learning experience. Keeping things fresh after 50 performances is something I have never had to encounter. There is one guy on my show who did like, 1500 performances of "Beauty and the Beast." It is really mind-boggling.

I think sometimes people tend to glamorize actors in a way. I think unless you reach the stratosphere as far as celebrity goes, there isn't too much glamorous about it. It is a wonderful life being a working actor, but not one I would call glamorous. That is fine by me. I like working more than anything and have more fun doing that than doing all the other stuff... god, I just reread what I wrote. I sound like a huge cliche. But whatever -- in my case it's true.

So what else....uh....it is the holiday season. Again. I like Thanksgiving. I'm not too huge on Christmas. It seems like in America our holidays have simply turned into ways to spend more money. It also seems the Christmas season is almost like forced emotion. It is like the (commercial) world is telling you: you must be happy!

Mark Schlerth Comments on Guiding Light Guest Star Stint

dt_gl_act_large_mschlereth.jpg Mark Schlerth played 12 seasons in the NFL and is currently a football analysts on ESPN. But daytime fans simply known him as Roc Hoover on Guiding Light.

Here are a few highlights of an interview he conducted with CBS:

CBS.com: How is it returning to GL?
Mark Schlerth: It's great. I'm excited. I've said it many times before and I'll say it again, it's like a big family and I've been welcomed with open arms. The people have been great to me. I have no acting skills and I've never aspired to be an actor. Everyone has been very kind.

CBS.com: How did this role come about?
Mark Schlerth: Rob Decina, who is the casting director for Guiding Light, is a fan of ESPN. He watches sports. I got an email from Allison, Rob's assistant, who said that they were a fan of my work and wanted to know if I'd be interested to do some work on the show.

A week later, I was doing a cold read and that was it, next thing you know I'm doing a little guest spot here and there and it seems like my role is starting to grow and that's exciting.

Cameron Mathison Criticizes Marie Osmond, Performance

Did you catch Dancing with the Stars last night?

Cameron Mathison did. And the All My Children star wasn't a huge fan of Marie Osmond's "living doll" freestyle routine.

He basically said he wished Osmond would have pulled a Pinocchio and come to life.

"I just was kind of waiting for her to drop the doll persona, then dance and have fun," Mathison said.  "I think it didn't come together as well as they'd hoped."

Jerry Douglas to Appear on Cold Case

For nearly two decades, Jerry Douglas has pretty much owned Genoa City as patriarch John Abbott on The Young and the Restless.

On Sunday, December 9, though, the 75-year-old actor will be shifting his gears to primetime as he makes a guest appearance in an episode of Cold Case.

The episode will be called "Family 8108" and Douglass will play Eugene "Skip" Robertson on the police procedural drama that stars Kathryn Morris.

Douglas will be part of a storyline in which the cold case detectives attempt to solve the 1945 murder of a man who moved his family to Philadelphia following their release from a Japanese-American internment camp in California during World War II.

Martha Madison: The Best Days of My Life

In a fun interview with Soap Opera Digest, Martha Madison recently recounted her five favorite episodes/scenes/moments during her tenure on Days of Our Lives...

Martha Madison 2005: HELLO, MOTHER
"I didn't work with Deidre Hall for about a year when I first joined the show, because Marlena was presumed dead. When it came time to do my first scenes with her, not only did I have to play the shock of 'Oh, my God! My mom is alive,' but I also had to do an entire show with Deidre Hall. It was a lot [to deal with]. I was scared to death. Deidre was like, 'Oh, my gosh. You're ridiculous for being so scared. We'll get through this together.' And we did. I connected with Deidre right away, and it was just awesome."

2004: SAY CHEESE!
"When Eric Winter (ex-Rex), Farah Fath (ex-Mimi), Jason Cook (ex-Shawn), Kyle Brandt (ex-Philip) and Heather Lindell (ex-Jan) were on the show, the six of us got to do this really fun photo shoot at Universal Studios Hollywood. It was on the New York City lot. They were trying to create that Friends shoot, and it was a blast. So much fun. I mean, there we were, working on a different lot, outside. We were all in trailers, and there were tour buses going by. You felt like such a star."

2005: BABY BLUES
"Playing Belle's postpartum depression after Claire was born was fun for me, because it was different. Doing that story brought my acting to a new level, too. It was really challenging. It was the first time we had done a postpartum story [on Days of Our Lives]. That, in and of itself, was a fun challenge for me. As an actor, I learned a lot, having to play something I had absolutely no idea about or how to play. It's the only time I ever really researched a lot of stuff. I had a lot of homework."
