Aiden Turner Speaks on All My Children, Life

SOAPnet recently spoke with Aiden Turner of All My Children. Here are highlights from the interview:

Aiden Turner PicWhat's your idea of bliss?
Aiden: My idea of bliss? I would say, to be on a nice beautiful island like in Thailand, maybe the Phi Phi Islands. I love Thai food, I love the tropics, and it's cheap. There are beautiful beaches and you can go scuba diving everyday. There are beautiful little huts that are very basic. You're not really spending $100 for every meal like you would on other vacations. You're waking up in the morning, you're in the ocean, that's my idea of bliss.

If you could go back in time to any era, what would it be?
Aiden: Wow. If I wouldn't get killed I'd like to go back to 2000 B.C. I'd like to see them building the pyramids in Giza, which is outside of Cairo. I think the Egyptians were very advanced. I don't know too much about them but I don't think they were a necessarily fierce civilization, they knew a lot about the stars and the galaxy. Just a great people. It really intrigues me.

Who are your personal heroes?
Aiden: It would have to be my mum. Mothers teach you right from wrong and how to deal with nasty people. They teach you how to make mistakes, learn from them. I would say, that's the greatest thing because the lessons stay with you. You get to my age now and can say, I'm not going to drive fast through a city [like she warned me not to do] or when it's raining because it's silly and I've crashed the car and it costs lots of money. She's been great.

Also, Judy Wilson, the casting director at AMC. She's great at her job and she's a sweetheart. Auditions can be quite nerve-wracking. And sometimes when you're nervous the casting directors make you really, really nervous. Or you're not nervous but they're so horrible, it makes you nervous. But she was wonderful and very supportive and kind.

What's the worst thing for you about acting?
Aiden: I'm quite shy, which people don't know. So, unless I'm comfortable – and I'm normally only comfortable with people I've known for a while – I'm not at my best. If there are people I don't know around I can be intimidated and that doesn't always work when you have to turn up on a set. If there's a great deal of work and the director's shouting at you…I'm quite sensitive.

(laughing) Being as sensitive as I am sometimes it doesn't work for me. Other days, sometimes I'll have what most would think would be difficult scenes but they're not so difficult for me because I am so sensitive.

In the Soap Opera Spotlight: Jay Kenneth Johnson

Jay Kenneth Johnson has starred on The Young and the Restless.

And now, of course, he can be seen daily on Days of Our Lives.

Jay Kenneth Johnson Despite being a veteran of the soap opera world, Johnson may remain a mystery to some viewers. With that in mind, check out these tidbits about the actor:

  • Originally auditioned for the role of Brady, but was cast as Philip instead.
  • Grew up in the same Missouri town as Brad Pitt, just around the corner from him, in fact. They share other connections, as well: John Aniston, Jay on-screen father, was Pitt’s real-life father-in-law.
  • Days of Our Lives fans were so heartbroken when he left the show that they hired a plane trailing a "Good Luck" banner to fly over the studio on his last day.
  • In his spare time, Johnson is the lead singer in the band Solid Jones.

Co-star Lauren Koslow once said about him: "There’s something special about Jay. From the first day he got here he's been very professional and enthusiastic. He's a joy to work with."

As the World Turns News: Dylan Bruce Hired, Kelley Menighan Hensley Returning

Here is a bit of As the World Turns casting scoops:

Dylan Bruce has been hired to play show's eighth Chris Hughes, a role last inhibited by Bailey Chase in 2005.

Kelley Menighan Hensley Bruce first appears on October 255; alongside Emily, who's due back the day before. The actress who portrays her - Kelley Menighan Hensley - reports back to work for real today, after a three month maternity leave.

"The idea of going back to work is a little intimidating at this juncture, but I will manage. I have 21 scenes!" said the actress to Soap Opera Digest.

"Once [my daughter] got here, in all honesty, I haven't even thought about work. I don't know what that tells me. I'm reserving all of my judgment because I realize my daughter is only nine weeks old at this time.

Your perspective changes and hopefully I'll get back into a rhythm of work and I'll love who I'm working with and I'll still get to work with Grayson [McCouch, Dusty]. Hopefully all those things that I loved about work will be there when I get back. I'm banking on it."

She's also been catching up with the show.

"I slowly see the strife between Holden and Lily, obviously, because I love to watch Jonny [Hensley, Holden, her husband] and I followed the Jack and Katie story. The whole time I'm just throwing things at the television because I want her with Brad! I think they're so good together. And put Jack back with Carly where he belongs!"

Michelle Ray Smith to Appear on The Early Show

Michelle Ray Smith (Ava Peralta) will be making an appearance on CBS' The Early Show Monday, September the 17.

Michelle Ray Smith

The Guiding Light star will be there to talk about her work for The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). The actress is also appearing in the current edition of Glamour, where she discusses her father's suicide.

Hats Off to Kassie DePaiva!

All My Children isn't the only place you can find Kassie DePaiva. She also hosts the PBS show Crochet Today.

Moreover, this actress is a also designer.

After learning the craft of crochet, DePaiba began to make hats as gifts for her fellow One Life To Live cast mates, until the show’s costume designer suggested she offer the hats for purchase, then turn around and donate the profits to charity.

Thanks to the support of the League of Hard of Hearing in New York City, Kassie's son JQ was able to learn how to speak with his cochlear implant, after having been born with a profound hearing loss.

Therefore, the actress wanted to give back to a place that meant so much to her family.

She did so by starting the line of Happy Hats, from which she donates all the profits to the charity that helped JQ and continues to help others in his situation.

This popular line of unique crochet hats are designed and crocheted by DePaiva personally. Check them out here.
