Guiding Light Writer Speaks on Year of Change

SOAPnet recently sat down with the head writer of Guiding Light, David Kreizman (pictured). Here are highlights from the interview:

SOAPnet.com: Congrats on the Daytime Emmy nomination. What was your first reaction?
David Kreizman: I was actually surprised by the nomination this year. I didn't even know it was nomination day until I arrived at the studio that day. And we were in a meeting, so I didn't find out until a little later. Of course, it's always nice to be recognized, but it's a strange year for writers. I think we're all still healing from the strike.

SOAPnet.com: Can you sum up your thoughts on Guiding Light in 2007? It featured the 70th Anniversary episode, which fans seemed to love. Any other highs or lows that stand out?
David: It was a real transition year for us. We knew the new format was coming, so we were always working toward that. I'm very proud of the Find Your Light campaign that Ellen [Wheeler, executive producer at Guiding Ligh] started. I spent a few days in Mississippi, and it was a very emotional experience for everyone involved. I had a great time writing the anniversary episode.

I kept putting it off and then finally locked myself in a hotel room with books of Guiding Light lore to write the script. Losing Tom [Pelphrey] and Stephanie [Gatschet] was difficult, but I think we got some great story by telling the tragic end of Jonathan and Tammy.

All My Children Rumors: Bye, Bye Richie

An ABC source has confirmed to Daytime Confidential that Annie Lavery's socipathic brother Richie (played by Billy Miller) will be killed off in the neart future.

As a quick refresher/summary: Richie came on All My Children for the sole purpose of tormenting his sister Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and to give her husband Ryan (Cameron Mathison) yet another chance to play hero.

From there, the character developed feelings for Babe (Amanda Baker) and there was almost a flicker of hope he would be humanized. Almost.

Do you wanna see him go?

New York Times Takes a Look at Nuke

As the World Turns has received plenty of mainstream attention for its gay pairing of Noah and Luke. Now, though, the show has hit the mainstream pay dirt!

The publicity surrounding this couple has landed it a feature article in The New York Times. Here's an excerpt from it:

Since its introduction of a gay-theme story line last summer As the World Turns has actually gained viewers, specifically younger viewers, some of whom turned to the show, unpredictably enough, after following the romance of the college-age characters Luke (Van Hansis) and Noah (Jake Silbermann) via YouTube clips posted by fans — new media reviving fossil media.

Hansis has been nominated as Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series for his character, who Hansis describes as a spoiled, rich kid; he took the role two and a half years ago.

The star was nominated in the same category last year, but lost to Bryton McClure, who plays Devon Hamilton The Young and the Restless.

''I've watched Luke grow up and become assertive with who he is,'' said Hansis, who began in the role at age 24 playing a 17-year-old gay teen. ''He's more of an adult now. He holds his own.''

Kyle Lowder Speaks on Wife, Life

Kute KyleThe adorable Kyle Lowder was recently interviewed by TV Guide Canada. Here are highlights from the interview:

TVGuide.ca: You must be thrilled that your wife, Arianne Zucker [Nicole] is back on Days of Our Lives and kicking some major diva ass!
Kyle Lowder: You know Days was her first job. She was a successful model before, and that’s what the soap was looking for when they hired her. After she left Days, she wanted to go back to school and improve her craft — not that she was bad before, but she wanted to use her free time to hone her craft, instead of wasting it. And now, look at her — I love what she’s doing as Nicole.

TVG: You and Arianne reconciled after a brief separation; congratulations! At last year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, I hung out with both of you and I never suspected you guys were having problems. A few weeks later, you announced your separation. I was a little shocked, to be honest and thought: Wow, they’re better actors than I gave them credit for! [laughs]
KL: [Laughs] I know — the separation was all about me. We were never not in love. We never put on a show unlike some other A-list movie stars who will remain nameless. I was going through some major personal issues that disconnected me from reality.

Our time apart was about me finding myself. And yes, it takes two to tango, but in this case, I was the one with the issues to resolve, and luckily, she wanted to put the pieces of our relationship back together. She was there for me — and that needs to be said.
