Andrea Evans: Back on One Life to Live

One Life to Live has confirmed a bit of exciting news:

Andrea Evans is back as everyone's favorite schemer Tina Lord. The actress had left for a role on Passions, but now that that gig has wrapped, she can return to her soap opera roots.

Andrea Evans

Evans originated the role of Lord in 1978 and last played it in 1990. No first air date for the star has been release yet, but sources say Tina will have a surprising tie to someone not very well liked in Llanview.

The actress also spent 22 episodes on The Bold and the Beautiful back in 1999-2000.

Jerry Douglas Returns to The Young and the Restless

Technically, Jerry Douglas has never left The Young and the Restless.

Sure, his character of died in August of 2006, but he's resurfaced since during ghostly visits to his son Jack (Peter Bergman). Still, this use of Douglas didn't quite fill the void for many fans of the show.

Jerry Douglas PicTherefore, the powers that be have decided to remedy the situation and introduce look-a-like Alistair Wallingford. Here's an interview with Douglas, as the veteran actor discusses how this unique return came about...

How did this "new" role come about?
I got a call from Karen [Rea], the casting director, and she told me how much she has enjoyed the ghost storyline over the last few months. Karen called me and said they wanted to talk to me about a new character and didn't say too much other than Maria [Bell] created it. She set up a meeting for me to sit down with them and find out what they had in mind.

I am very fond of Maria. I really like her as a person. She is very devoted to certain charities and my wife Kym has attended many events with Maria. She has always been very sweet to my wife. She is a very genuine person.

A couple of days later, I went to see them and they proceeded to tell me all about Alistair Wallingford, a drunken old actor. We decided how to disguise him a bit from my look. We talked about a beard and putting a hat on. We talked about him having a Scottish accent the first couple of days to make him even more grotesque to Jack and Sharon. My first scene was March 18, brief but hysterical. I walk in and they practically faint because he looks like a stumble bum actor.

Describe his character.
He is a devoted stage artist in his own mind. Many of the stage actors that I grew up around in New York as young actor who were devoted to the classics like Shakespeare didn't really have a great awareness of film and television. Today things are different, your exposure is so much greater with the Internet and so forth. But back then, the world was your stage and he is very theatrical. He has no qualms about telling you how great he is. And he is very charming!

Now that I have portrayed him for a few weeks, I think he is genuinely a good person with a good heart. He is a bit of a lost soul. He has no roots. A kind of wandering minstrel from theater to theater for most of his life but he loves the stage and he loves performing. I find him fascinating."

Whom has Alistair interacted with so far?
Jack and Sharon in the beginning and a little bit with Jeff. Ted Shackelford was very, very funny. We were both laughing after we finished our scenes. I worked with Katherine and Jill. Jess and Jeanne and I go way back so it was really fun to work with them. I just finished some scenes with Gloria and Alistair. He falls in love with Gloria when he sees her. He is really taken with her.

Jill wants him to find someone else but he is really taken with Gloria. He charms her, warms up to her. He is still very theatrical but he is more down to earth with her than anyone else that he has met.

Readers React to Guiding Light Changes

Bill, LizzieAccording to The New York Daily News, viewers aren't satisfied with the new look and feel of Guiding Light:

A number of readers seem to agree with the complaint of angry viewers that the new style of Guiding Light isn't working.

The 71-year-old soap gave itself a major face-lift last month, with hand-held cameras, extreme closeups of the performers and a generally less "canned" look.

The producers say they're happy and that it gives the show a fresher, more contemporary look. Reader Carolyn Brown, among others, begs to differ.

"Producer Janet Morrison says viewer response has been generally great. I am sorry to say that this is a blatant lie," wrote Brown. "All of the Web sites that I have seen constantly give bad reviews. I would say that about 90% of the feedback is negative. Longtime viewers such as myself demand that 'Guiding Light' go back to the original format. We cannot watch the show as it is."

Yaya Dacosta Cast on All My Children

Yaya DacostaYaya Dacosta, the runner-up on season three of America's Next Top Model, has been cast on All My Children.

In that soap's final episode, Angie and Jacob (played by Darnell Williams, who currently plays Jesse on All My Children, of course) found an abandoned Cassandra and brought her home with them.

Marnie Schulenburg Speaks Out

Marnie Schulenburg recently spoke with Tulsa World about her experience in acting and on  As the World Turns.

Marnie Schulenburg Pic Q. When did you first know you wanted to be an actress?
A. I always knew I wanted to be a performer. I started dancing when I was in kindergarten and singing in elementary school. I didn’t begin vocal lessons until seventh grade, but I was always in my school choirs, participating in shows and dancing before then. I was mainly focused on singing and musical theater until I went to college, and I fell in love with Shakespeare, Moliere, Euripides, Tennessee Williams and many other amazing playwrights.

Q. How did you get the part of Alison on As the World Turns?
A. I went in for a general meeting with Mary Clay Boland (As the World Turns casting director), and we talked about how I just moved
to Astoria, Queens, a couple months before and that it was about an hour and half subway ride away from the studio. So, she was nice enough to let me read something since I had come all the way out there.

I then did a cold read of a scene she had, and I guess she liked it, because she then called Executive Producer Chris Goutman down to see me do the scene. Well, the rest is history! I started full time about two months later. But first I shot an episode on The Young and the Restless and a series of Web episodes to reintroduce the character of Alison to the As the World Turns audience.

Q. Who do you have the most fun with?
A. I don’t know if there’s one person in particular, because everyone is so different and fun in their own ways. Of course it also has to do with who I work the most with, which is Agim Kaba (Aaron), and for a while Jen Landon (Gwen) and Jesse Lee Soffer (Will), who I had so much fun with to the point where I would break at the end of a lot of scenes because I couldn’t keep a straight face with them.

Q. What do you like most about playing Alison? What can you relate to about her?
A. I like how lovable she is. She has such endearing qualities, and the writers have been doing a great job creating little quirks for me to play. And I love her silly sarcasm! I think that is what I relate to the most. I can be very sarcastic, as a matter of fact, and Alison can be very similar to the point of being blunt, but never maliciously mean.
