The Young and the Restless Fires Head Writer

Lynn Marie Latham, executive producer and head writer of The Young and the Restless, has been fired from the soap opera.

latham-lynn-marie.jpg Latham's office had been reportedly cleared out late last year when she refused executives' requests to continue working on the show during the writers' strike.  Her contract permitted her to continue production work for The Young and the Restless during the strike because of her hyphenated job title of head writer and executive producer.

Latham, however, chose to walk the picket line with her fellow writers.

In the aftermath of the firing, it's speculated that acting executive producer and head writer Josh Griffith will be offered an official executive producer post.

Griffith, who was hired by The Young and the Restless during the WGA work stoppage, used the "financial core" clause in his union membership to continue working during the strike.  It is unclear if Griffith, like Latham before him, will pull double duty as executive producer and head writer.

"It has been difficult, it has been trying," Gottesfeld posted on a message board for writers.  "[My wife] Cherie and I survived with our jobs at The Young and the Restless intact, others were not so fortunate. Friends and colleagues are now trying to figure out what to do."

Confirmed: Jeff Branson to Leave All My Children

Jeff Branson PhotoAfter months of rumors, we can now confirm that Jeff Branson (Jonathan Lavery) is All My Children. Talk of Branson's departure had been generated by the Emmy nominated actor's almost non-existent screen time in recent weeks.

"Jonathan Lavery will be written off," an All My Children spokesperson said in a statement, as reported by soapcentral.com.

Branson joined All My Children in June 2004.

Becayse Jonathan is tied on-screen to actress Leven Rambin (Lily Montgomery and Ava Benton), many fans have speculated that Rambin will also be leaving the show. This is not the case, however.

"Leven Rambin is not leaving," a show rep said.

Rachel Melvin Has a Legacy

As Chelsea on Days of Our Lives, Rachel Melvin was once involved in the cover-up of a murder at a sorority house.

Now, in her upcoming movie, Legacy, Melvin is faced with a dead body found at a sorority house. The three most popular “sisters” become the prime suspects of the crime. Sounds familiar, huh?

Directed by Irving Rothberg and starring Haylie Duff, Legacy finds Melvin playing the character of Julie. It's set to be released later this year.
