Nuke Complaints Featured in Los Angeles Times

Yesterday, the Los Angeles Times ran a story about complaints from As the World Turns fans over the treatment of Luke and Noah's relationship.

Online fans began a nationwide media blitz on February 20 to bring attention to the show, which has been twice nominated for an award from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).

"Presenting a gay couple on television only to relegate them to insulting hugs and slaps on the back is the 21st century version of putting African Americans on the back of the bus," wrote one disgruntled fan named Tony. "We're simply supposed to be happy that we got the ride at all. This is 2008, and yet CBS and Procter & Gamble are clearly stuck in the past."

That's not the case, says Jeannie Tharrington, a spokeswoman for Procter & Gamble Productions. She denies the show's writers have been discriminating.

"We're trying to be sensitive to all the different audiences who watch our show. We do make our decision based on what we think is best for the show's diverse audience and what's best creatively."

Tharrington adds that the Nuke story line is simply part of the soap opera world, one that is "always trying to keep people wanting more."

CBS spokesmen said the show's ratings have increased since the pair were introduced last year.

"CBS supports the producers' vision for the Luke and Noah storyline," according to a statement. "We have not censored it or asked them to hold back in any way."

Colin Egglesfield Honored by High School

Colin Egglesfield was recently yesterday in a piece by an ABC news affiliate in Illinois. Here's an excerpt:

It was homecoming week in Crete for one of the stars of All My Children. Colin Egglesfield, who has played Josh Madden for three years, was honored by Marian Catholic High School.

A Marian Catholic alumnus, the actor attended the school's annual Hall of Fame Dinner on Thursday and received the Fine Arts Distinguished Achievement award for his work in print, film and television. Earlier in the day, he visited students in theater and mass media classes, toured the school, and visited with former teachers and coaches.

Born in Farmington Hills, Michigan and raised in Crete, Egglesfield attended Illinois Wesleyan University where he played football before transferring to the University of Iowa and graduating with a degree in biology/pre-medicine.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Speaks on All My Children Appearance, Pole Dancing

When Maksim Chmerkovskiy guest stars on All My Children on February 26, he'll be teaching a few character how to pole dance.

So, the former Dancing with the Stars professional must know a thing or two about that fine art, right? Right?!?

"When I got to [All My Children] they were shocked that I've never done pole-dancing before —like, why would I? — but I figured it out and tried to keep it clean," Chmerkovskiy told TV Guide.

The dancing pro might be excited about this opportunity, but he insists he has no interest in acting, having nixed most other non-dancing offers.

"People have wanted to put me in a cowboy hat and make me the next Nashville Star," he said. "Trust me, that's not where my talent is. I'm like a peacock — beautiful but you don't want to hear it sing."

Maksim Chmerkovskiy on All My Children

Fair enough. But what was Maxsim's impression of All My Children?

"It's really hard work but, to be honest, soaps are a bit cheesy," Chmerkovskiy said. "All the girls were telling me about their crazy storylines. One of them had been in a coma three times. Another one used to be a ghost."

Rough stuff, indeed.
