All My Children News/Notes from the Set, Beach

Here are a few news and notes from recent happenings on the set of All MY Children...

After filming a race through New York City streets, both Cameron Mathison (pictured, Ryan) and Thorsten Kaye (Zach) were exhausted... and more than a little sore. Mathison said neither of the actors were in the kind of shape required for such sprints.

Cameron Mathison Pic In other news: Alec Musser (Del), girlfriend Celia Kelly, and their friends look forward every July 4 to the annual Del Mar, California Thoroughbred Racetrack party, a splashy, two-month affair.

The group hangs out in the paddock in their summer finery, while spending entire days at the beach surfing, playing volleyball, barbecuing, rafting, food fighting, drinking and watching fireworks. Said Musser of the fun:

“The festivities begin and it is full throttle from that point on.”

In other beach happenings, Brent Weber (Sean) was enjoying a day with his pals in L.A., when they spotted a guy manhandling his two golden retrievers. He was yanking them around and generally abusing them whenever they tried to get some loving from friendly strangers. Weber stood up for the crying puppies and laid into this moron:

“I almost got into a fight with him,” the actor told Soap Opera Digest.

Lastly, a few All My Children stars have put together a garage band. They include: Jenna DiMartini (Corrina), Chris Henry (Ren) and on contract, Sterling Sulieman (Dre).

Van Hansis Answers Your Questions

Van Hansis is in the news a lot these days.

He and Jake Silbermann shared a man-on-man kiss last week that continues to generate buzz.

Therefore, it seemed like a good time to check out this young actor's blog. He answered fan questions over at the official CBS website for the show...

I didn’t know want to blog about this time. The summer? Luke’s towel scene? What’s coming up for Luke and Noah? I do all that stuff in interviews. I wanted something new, and like a bolt of lightning, something new showed up.

Frisco asks: Boxers or briefs?
Answer: Usually boxer briefs actually, sometimes briefs though and on occasion boxers. I don’t like the way boxers bunch up.

RogerD asks: Career-wise, I would ask Van what are his ultimate plans in the business (i.e. does he want to continue to do theater and stay in New York or does he ultimately want to do big budget films in Hollywood). On a personal level, I would ask him what he values most in another person.
Answer: Well, RogerD, I just want to be a working actor. I love New York, so ideally I'd like to stay here if I could. However, I also love television as a medium, so I want to explore that, too. I will never give up theater, but it's a reality that if you don't sing or dance, making a living in theater can be tough. As far as big budget blockbusters, who knows? They wouldn't be what I would actively seek out, but if one happens for me, I wouldn’t be against it.

As for what I look for in other people it's generally humor and integrity, pretty simple huh? Don't be self obsessed and have opinions that you know how to share without coming across as ignorant or overblown.

Brhannada's Armour asks: What is the most powerful, original, and/or enlightening story you can imagine for your character?
Answer: Watch what's happening for Luke in the next few months. Big stuff. Big, big stuff and I'm pretty excited to play it.

BNJ31 asks: What is your favorite thing about New York and where do you hang out?
Answer: I love New York because you can get everything here - every food, every type of performance. Sitting in the park is endlessly entertaining watching the people. I love the way New Yorkers band together in crisis and I love the food. I usually hang out downtown or in my neighborhood in Brooklyn. Brooklyn is my favorite borough.

Lildenlover asks: Is Martha Byrne very different from her character?
Answer: Yes, she is – very, very different. Martha is freakin’ hilarious. She is so witty and quick. She is also pretty business savy, which Lily seems not to be at all.

Kiko Ellsworth Leaving General Hospital

The rumors are true: Kiko Ellsworth is leaving both General Hospital and General Hospital: Night Shift.

The actor himself has chosen to abandon the role of Sam, which he's owned since February. Reportedly, he's leaving left to focus on other projects, such as the movie I Am that begins filming in September.

Joshua Morrow Reflects on the Summer

Joshua Morrow Fans of The Young and the Restless may have missed seeing Joshua Morrow on screen a lot this summer, but the actor has been making the most of his time off.

"This has been the most fun summer I've ever had," the soap opera star told Soap Opera Digest. "I'm not doing much on the show. They were pounding me for a while with story, but now I'm watching Phyllis get thrown in prison. I'm just observing, and it's a welcome break."

And he's spending it with his boys, Cooper, who will be 5 in September, and Crew, 2.

"Man, it's heaven," he said. "They're getting to the level now where you don't have to bring strollers, diapers, bottles and everything. We can just throw on some trunks and baseball caps and roll. They're also at this great stage where all they want to do is play sports."

Morrow was recovering from a weekend of fun when the publication caught up with him.

"We have a beach house, and it was just me, the wife and the boys," he added. "We played baseball in the sand, made sand castles and took outdoor showers. It was awesome."

In closing, Morrow was honest about trying for another kid: "We're not on any clock, but I think it will happen some day. We're going by the seat of our pants."

Happy Birthday to Rick Springfield!

The famous crooner and General Hospital star turns 58 today.

In his honor, we figured we'd post a clip of Rick Springfield donning a pink suit and singing "Whenever I Call You Friend" with Cheryl Ladd in 1982. Why not, right?

Tomorrow, meanwhile, marks Springfield's singing debut on General Hospital. Regarding the event, executive producer Jill Farren Phelps said:

"The town of Port Charles is literally going to rock. Long-time viewers as well as Rick Springfield fans will be entertained, while new viewers will see why General Hospital is appointment television."

Get to Know a Soap Opera Star: Melissa Claire Egan

We recently learned that co-stars refers to Melissa Claire Egan as "Boots."

But what else do we know about this All My Children star? Let's take a look...

Melissa Claire Egan Pic According to Soap Opera Digest, the actress grew up in lovely Westchester County, N.Y., with her mother, father and pair of brothers. She began auditioning for small roles and commercials at a young age, but didn't dream of making a career out of acting.

But talent took over and Egan made her her soap opera debut at the age of 13, playing an extra on All My Children in 1994.

She attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with a B.A. in Dramatic Arts. From there, Melissa moved to Hollywood and scored gigs on Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill. Twelve years after her TV debut, Egan landed a spot with the All My Childen cast as Annie McDermott, single mother of Emma (Lucy Merriam) and budding love interest of Ryan (Cameron Mathison).

Before arriving on this scene, though, Egan had previously auditioned for The Young and the Restless and As the World Turns.

Down the line, Egan hopes to work with the great Susan Lucci - but, really, who wouldn't?

Trevor St. John to Appear on Dirty Sexy Money

Trevor St. JohnTrevor St. John has nabbed a recurring role in ABC's mega-hyped new show, Dirty Sexy Money.

The One Life to Live star will play Nick George's (Peter Krause) father in flashback sequences.

Because the elder George dies in the show's first episode — and how he dies is one of the series' first storylines — how much St. John will be seen is uncertain.

The show focuses on the lives of the super-rich, super-spoiled Darling family of Manhattan, led by patriarch Patrick (Donald Sutherland). Nick inherits the dubious job of the family's attorney after the death of his father.
